The First Lady of the United States of America has arrived in India with her husband and President Barack Obama
While she has an impeccable sense of dressing, I would love for some of my favourite Indian designers to doll her up for her visit to our country. Mrs Obama has a tall and lithe frame and she looks good in almost anything she wears! So I bestow the fancy task of dressing her up to the following designers!
Sabyasachi- Because what would I not give to see Michelle in one of Sabya’s signature sarees. Delicate, with elaborate embroidery, ornate yet understated, Sabyasachi’s creations are synonymous with royal and elegant, everything Mrs Obama is! So one of Sabyasachi’s embroidered anarkalis with a tunic inside or a saree would look great on Michelle O.
Manish Malhotra- To his credit, MM has revamped the fashion statements of many Indian actresses like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Sridevi to name a few. I would love to see the First Lady of America wearing a typical Manish Malhotra style voluminous long skirt teamed with a kurta style jacket!
Anamika Khanna- She is one of my absolute favourites not just because it is incredible how she creates beautiful outfits despite no formal training in fashion but also because her creations are sharp and edgy. One of my favourites off the runway, an embroidered peplum jacket paired with a pair of palazzos or sharara pants, would make Mrs Obama look fantastic!
Pankaj and Nidhi- This innovative duo of designers has never ceased to impress me especially elements like applique bodices or skirts used in their outfits. One such creation in a pastel blue with an embroidered bodice or an applique skirt would sit well on the First Lady’s frame!
Monica Jaisingh- I can never get enough of her embroidered pants and I would like to see the same on Michelle if it is teamed with Mughal embroidery jacket or a printed wrap shirt.
Shane and Falguni- Their innovative digital prints by these designers are ever-inspiring and being the epitome of a forward-thinking, contemporary, modern woman that she is, Michelle Obama can totally pull off such prints with pizzazz.
Masaba- Her creations can add that tiny bit of kitschy quality to Michelle Obama’s magnanimous persona. Anything, be it a saree or a kurta or a midi dress with some quirky Masaba print on it would work wonderfully on Mrs President!
